SEASIDE, Ore. – Jan. 9, 2026) – Seaside Police have received reports of counterfeit $100 bills being passed at local businesses recently. Businesses are encouraged to use caution when accepting $100 bills.
While counterfeit bills may appear authentic, they often feel different from genuine U.S. currency and will not pass electronic validation devices. Most local counterfeits feature a backplate number of “82” printed in the bottom right corner on the back of the bill.
Businesses are advised to remain vigilant, verify large bills when possible, and retain any security camera footage related to incidents. If you have any information about individuals attempting to pass fraudulent currency, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
