Short Film Night Returns to Nehalem Sept. 7th

The McMinnville Short Film Festival will present a pop-up screening of five acclaimed documentary or environmental films at the North County Recreation District Performing Arts Center in Nehalem Sunday, September 7 at 7 p.m. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be $10 at the door.  There will be a raffle for a 2026 pass to the McMinnville Short Film Festival.

The films to be shown are:
The Final Copy of Ilon Specht (USA-2024) DOC
Director: Ben Proudfoot
An intimate deathbed account of the unsung advertising genius who coined L’Oréal’s iconic “Because I’m Worth It” slogan in 1971, a four-word feminist manifesto that, against all odds, changed advertising forever. (18 min)
Shiringa: Fashion Regenerated Amazonia (Australia/Peru-2024) ENV
Director: Emma Hakansson
In the Peruvian Amazon, an Indigenous community make a bio-material alternative to animal-derived and synthetic leather while defending their land. (12 min)
Substance of Venom (USA -2024) ENV
Director: Cherie Sampson
Cancer survivor Sampson self-administers honeybee “stinging rituals” to call attention to recent research that has discovered that the active substance in honeybee venom, melittin, can treat two types of breast cancer, and stresses the need for more natural forms of cancer therapy than toxic treatments. They Call Me the Tattoo Witch (USA-2024) DOC
Director: Lindsay Nyman
In Hanoi, Vietnam, tattoo artist Tran Ngoc specializes in transforming scars into works of art, confronting social stigma and empowering her clients to reclaim their bodies and stories.

Gonna Need a Bigger Boat (USA-2024) DOC
Director: Jason Rosenblatt
A musical journey through the many bands of Portland musician Jason Wells. (27 min)
Held each February in McMinnville, Ore., the internationally recognized festival is in its 15th year. Over the course of four days, audiences will be presented with over 100 short films, ranging in styles and topics, including Native American, Drama, Environmental, Comedy, Horror, Experimental, Animation, and Documentary.
