THE GRIEF HOUSE: Life After Loss – Surviving and Rebuilding After The Death Of A Partner Group Series Starts April 5

Posted on March 28, 2026 by Editor
Adam Sawyer is a local writer, outdoor nature wanderer that the Pioneer is pleased to start featuring (we’ve followed him on Substack for years.) Just recently, The Grief House approached him to facilitate this grief group about the loss of a partner.
Neal Lemery endorsed, “This would be a top-notch experience.” Adam has shared is journey through life, including the loss of his life partner, and through this work has found a calling to talk about grief and the healing power of nature.
Starting in April, on the first Sunday of every month, Adam Sawyer will be facilitating group grief sessions based on the seasons that will explore different aspects of grief and mourning. The series is called “Life After Loss: Surviving and Rebuilding After the Death of a Partner,” and will convene at The Grief House in Portland starting on Sunday, April 5th.

Continuing on after the loss of a life partner can feel devastating, disorienting and deeply lonely. This group offers a space to come together to explore what it means to re-invest in life after this kind of traumatic change.

Life After Loss: Surviving and Rebuilding After The Death Of A Partner

When & Where

Apr 05, 2026, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM PDT

Portland, 7906 N Fessenden St, Portland, OR 97203, USA

Continuing on after the loss of a life partner can feel devastating, disorienting and deeply lonely.

This group offers a space where we can come together to explore what it means to remain living without a beloved with whom you hoped to share your whole life.

During our time together we will explore our loss and build tools to gently connect and engage with our ongoing lives as they continue alongside our grief.

What To Expect:

• We will gather in person the first Sunday of each month.

• At the start of each in-person gathering I will hand out and review the weekly prompts for the current month.

There is an invitation for participants to get together to work with the meditations/writing suggestions/activity prompts in between gatherings, but no expectation or requirement for it. We will gather information about how/how often/in what ways folks would like to be in contact and give some guidelines for starting conversations about connections.

• I will open our time together with a led grounding activity and check in.

• This will be followed by a guided reflection on the month’s theme.

• We will save time for discussion and memory/grief sharing.

• And end with a closing ritual or takeaway.

This year long offering will cycle with the seasons. Each season we will explore a different aspect of our mourning.

You can are invited to join for one season, all of them consecutively, or come in and out as your grief requests. These seasons of mourning will repeat annually, so you can return to familiar themes year after year as you change with your loss.
