THE OCEANSIDER – SPECIAL EDITION – Nov. 1, 2025: Incorporation Survey Results; Proposed Village Residents Support Measure by 2-to-1 Margin

Posted on November 3, 2025 by Editor

From the Oceanside Village Initiative Team –
Over the past year, the Oceanside Village Initiative team (“OVI”) has led a community effort to examine the benefits and costs of establishing Oceanside’s “Village” area as Oregon’s newest city. We alerted every property owner by mail and invited their questions. We then (1) engaged numerous Oceansiders in one-on-one conversations, (2) established a comprehensive website and (3) presented a series of community Zoom presentations on key issues. Over the past two weeks, the OVI circulated a survey seeking community input on whether to proceed with submission of a petition for incorporation of “Oceanside Village.”

With the guidance provided by this survey, the OVI team is now carefully weighing the merits of proceeding with an initiative petition. We will be making an announcement in the next day or so. Meanwhile, we continue to welcome your input at oceansidevillageinitiative@gmail.com

Survey Results

We had 202 Oceansiders respond to the Survey, which was open to those from inside and outside of the proposed “Oceanside Village” boundary. Significantly, over half of the proposed Village’s 145 registered voters participated, and of these, more than 73% supported the measure. Of the 66 participants from outside of the proposed boundary, 80% signaled opposition to the measure.

All participants were asked to describe their “current opinion” about incorporating ‘Oceanside Village’ as an independent city.”  Here are some highlights:

Village Residents Including Registered Voters and Non-Voters
Strongly or leaning in favor   90 (66%)
Strongly or leaning against   45 (32%)
Undecided                                 3 (2%)

Registered Voters Inside Village Boundary
Strongly or leaning in favor   58 (73%)
Strongly or leaning against   21 (26%)
Undecided                                 1 (1%)

Participants Outside Village Boundary (all)
Strongly or leaning in favor    9 (17%)
Strongly or leaning against   51 (80%
Undecided                                 6 (1%)

Villagers and Participants from Outside Boundary (combined)
Strongly or leaning in favor   99 (49%)
Strongly or leaning against    95 (47%)
Undecided                                  7 (3%)
