EDITOR’S NOTE: Thanks so much to Jerry Keene for his coverage of the Oceanside 4th of July parade.
See below for more photos provided the the Oceanside Neighbors group. We really appreciate local community members sharing their photos and videos with us. Tillamook County is a BIG county – and on the 4th of July holiday, there are events from north to south, and many happening at the same time. We have a small, volunteer staff so coverage can be challenging – it takes a village to cover the village news. Again, thanks to Jerry for sharing The Oceansider and for all the wonderful folks in Netarts and Oceanside for sharing your views of your villages.

When politics strangles community spirit and every shrill headline grates on your nerves, there is only one thing to do. Throw a parade! And not just any parade, but Oceanside’s World’s Best Fourth of July Parade! This year, as parade marchers gathered in their eclectic finery, partisanship evaporated with the morning mist. There was no room for rancor or wrangling. These neighbors came to celebrate.

There were flags, to be sure. But these flags were for waving and wearing, not wielding against others,
The crowd was festive and fun. Full-timers, family, snowbirds and visitors sharing the magic of Oceanside in a summer celebration of the nation we all share. |
|
And then there was the parade – a pageant open to everyone and anyone. No theme, no contests, no rules. Just 33 minutes (we counted!) of Oceanside at its quirky finest – and this year with welcome guests from Netarts too! |
|
After the parade, those who marched and those who watched made their way home as best they could, walking driving or (hitchhiking!) ready to rest and come together again next year for the World’s Best Fourth of July Parade! |
