Tillamook County Habitat for Humanity Honors Veterans and First Responders with 200 Meal Boxes on 9/11 Day of Service

Tillamook County Habitat for Humanity proudly participated in the September 11 Day of Service and Remembrance, honoring veterans and first responders with a community effort that delivered 200 meal boxes across Tillamook County.

With the support of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Grant, 36 volunteers — including 11 veterans and first responders themselves, worked side by side to assemble and distribute the meals. Deliveries included:

  • 35 meal boxes to the U.S. Coast Guard
  • 13 meal boxes to 9-1-1 dispatch staff
  • 8 meal boxes to Tillamook City police
  • 15 meal boxes to Bay City Fire Department
  • The remaining meal boxes to individual veterans and first responders throughout the community.

“This was such a meaningful way for us to say thank you to those who serve our country and community,” said Briar Smith,Executive Director of Tillamook County Habitat for Humanity. “It was especially powerful to work alongside veterans and first responders themselves as volunteers in this effort, as well as community members.”

In addition to honoring service members, Tillamook County Habitat for Humanity used this opportunity to share information about its Critical Repair Program, which helps low-income homeowners with essential repairs, from roofs to ramps and rails and more. At this time we have funding to help with projects and encourage veterans, first responder and community members alike to reach out and learn more.

Tillamook County Habitat for Humanity thanks the grant partners, volunteers, and community supporters who made this day possible.
