EDITOR’S NOTE: With Spring Breaks in full swing, there’s a lot more traffic and the visitors aren’t familiar with our roads, make sudden, unexpected turns, or don’t turn when they’re supposed to (the Nehalem/Hwy. 101 intersection – heavy sigh.) A reminder to local residents to allow more time especially in the afternoons to get your destinations and be patient – this is the first time some of these folks have ever experienced our amazing scenic views. Just slow down and enjoy the drive and remember how lucky we are that we get to live here. If you do encounter someone driving erratically or dangerously, call the non-emergency line at 503-815-1911. Drive aware and help keep everyone safe.
Beginning April 1st through April 30th, 2026, the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in a distracted driving enforcement blitz.
Deputies will be conducting high-visibility patrols focused on distracted driving. They’ll be watching for drivers who are texting, using handheld devices, and not wearing seatbelts.
If you need to use your phone, pull over. Your safety — and everyone else’s — depends on it.
