Highway 6 is currently fully closed in both eastbound and westbound directions near milepost 35 due to construction to repair the washed-out section of roadway.
The full closure began this morning Sunday January 4, 2026, and is expected to remain in effect overnight while Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) crews work to make the roadway passable. ODOT crews are working expeditiously to address the damage and restore safe travel conditions.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. No estimated reopening time is available at this time. Updates will be provided as conditions change.
The public is reminded to obey all traffic control devices and road closure signage for their safety and the safety of emergency personnel and road crew.

From Tillamook County Commissioner Paul Fournier:
UPDATE: It now appears the road will be closed overnight and possibly longer. ***
January 4, 2025, 12:00: Happy Sunday. As many of you are probably aware, Highway 6 is currently closed at milepost 35.
ODOT representives advised me that they observed additional cracking and sloughing of the single usable lane.
The contractor is currently attempting to widen and reinforce that lane.
ODOT also advised that they will update their trip check website when the road reopens. Please check https://tripcheck.com/ before traveling.
Thanks to Tillamook County Sheriff’s Deputy Billy Cloud for the photos of the road as of 11:30 am this morning.
