It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Greg Foster.
Greg was a dedicated water quality volunteer for Tillamook Estuaries Partnership, Board Member of the Nehalem Bay Watershed Council, champion for our estuaries, and husband of our Executive Director, Kristi Foster.
Greg was a brilliant, adventurous, and fun-loving eccentric who loved to cause mischief, playfully offend people’s sensibilities, and make them think outside of the box. He had a love of science, nature, and philosophy. We will fondly remember him with smiles and laughter.
Greg’s family and the TEP Board established a fund to create a memorial place of reflection for future visitors to TEP’s planned Estuary Science Center. This space will honor Greg’s indomitable spirt and devotion to our oceans, watersheds, rivers, and estuaries. A fitting tribute to an inspiring soul. All donations are tax-deductible and will be designated specifically for this purpose – a link is below.
Here’s more about his life and legacy.

“…a free-range scientist who enjoys all of nature’s adverbs, especially the why’s and how’s…” – Self Description by Greg
58 years old
Born on July 1, 1966 in Evansville, Indiana, United States; Passed away on November 28, 2024 in Portland, Oregon, United States
Greg was a brilliant, adventurous, and fun-loving eccentric who loved to cause mischief, playfully offend people’s sensibilities, and make them think outside of the box. He had a love of science, nature, and philosophy. We will remember him with smiles and laughter forever.
This memorial website has been created for and by his family and the many friends from around the world who loved him. Please click on the His Life tab above to read the chapters of Greg’s life (more photos coming soon). Feel free to add your own tall tales and photos; add to the colorfulness that made Greg the legendary figure that he strove to be,
Greg chose to be cremated and, per his wishes, no funeral service will occur. A Celebration of Life will be planned sometime in the Spring of 2025.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Greg Foster Memorial Fund through Tillamook Estuaries Partnership (TEP), where his wife Kristi works as the Executive Director. The fund will be used for a memorial in Greg’s honor at the new building that TEP is designing and constructing in Bay City, OR. To donate, go to https://givebutter.com/XgchV6. TEP is a non-profit organization, so you will receive a donation receipt for your taxes.
