EDITOR’S NOTE:  The Tillamook County Pioneer has all kinds of content devoted to emergency preparedness. Here’s the latest from the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay about storm preparations.  With the forecast calling for storms, winds, and possible snow – prepare now – don’t wait until the storm hits.  https://www.tillamookcountypioneer.net/winter-preparedness-tips-for-weathering-the-storm-power-outages-more/
It’s crucial to ensure that both you and your home are ready to face the challenges during a storm. Here are some ideas to help you prepare:
Emergency Kit Essentials:
Create a winter storm emergency kit. Include items like blankets, flashlights, non-perishable food, water, batteries, and a first aid kit.

**Tillamook PUD has some great tips on how to build an emergency supply kit: https://www.tpud.org/safety/emergency-preparedness/
Car Preparations:
Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready. Check tires, brakes, antifreeze levels, and keep an emergency kit in your car with blankets, snacks, and a flashlight.
Frozen Pipe Prevention:
Insulate exposed pipes and allow faucets to drip during extremely cold nights to prevent freezing. Know where your water shut-off valve is located.
Communication Plan:
Establish a communication plan with family and neighbors. Share emergency contacts and keep everyone informed of your plans during a storm.
Stay Informed:
Monitor weather updates regularly. Be aware of any advisories or warnings, and plan accordingly.
Stay warm and stay safe!
