An Invitation and Introduction – Join us for Candidate’s Forum Today from NCRD Director Candidate Constance Shimek

Posted on April 25, 2021 by Editor

Today, April 25th, 2021 The American Association of University Women – Tillamook, in partnership with the Tillamook Headlight Herald and the Tillamook County Pioneer, are hosting a Candidates Forum for several of the contested special district races on April 25th starting at 3:00pm.  The meeting will be held via zoom:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/9618460049…
Questions can be submitted via email (in advance) to lisaphipps08@gmail.com or can be submitted during the forum in the chat box.   Questions will be read by the moderator.  Candidates for positions at 911, the Tillamook County Transportation District, all 3 school districts, all 3 ports, and both recreation districts will be present.  This is an exciting opportunity to meet the candidates.  Our special districts play a valuable role in the success of our county and this is a chance to hear directly from the candidates running for election. I hope to see you there.

Hello, my name is Constance Shimek and I am running for Director Position 5 on the Board of Directors for North County Recreation District.

For over 13 years, my husband and I have owned and operated Horse Tale Flats B&B and a Christmas Tree farm on the outskirts of Nehalem. During those years I have been heavily involved with funding numerous programs and projects for NCRD through Friends of  NCRD. For the past two years I have served as the president on that board. Now, I’m prepared to do much more.

I have learned a lot over the years, and I have heard so many compelling stories from community members about their vision and hopes for NCRD. I have also heard their disappointments and frustrations. All of these opinions have value, and I want to make sure they are included in conversations as we move forward on large scale development projects. I envision an NCRD where EVERY member of the community feels welcome, honored, and respected, AND free to contribute their ideas and opinions on every aspect of development, policy, and operation. Together, we will create the best possible version of NCRD.

As a board member my first order of business will be to develop community outreach programs which encompass every segment of the population. We must address social inequities for people of color, for those with challenging economic situations, for the LGBTQ2IA+  community, for citizens with physical disabilities and other challenges, and for all marginalized segments of the population. We need to hear from them and we need to help. I love the idea of a youth advocacy committee where we will hear directly from the young people in our community, bringing them in on key decision making processes, now. They, and their children, will inherit what we build today. The more we learn from all of our voices, the more robust solutions we will create. My mission is inclusion. I will listen, I will carry the messages, and I will fight for those who will entrust me with their voice.

A Vote for Constance is a Voice for All.
