GORDON’S UPDATE: Weather 11/22/23 – King Tides, Sneaker Wave Warnings & Happy Thanksgiving

Posted on November 22, 2023 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer

A weaker front passed across today bringing some light rain, now with only some high clouds streaming across we see a partly sunny evening, then tonight, we can expect mostly cloudy skies, and with high pressure building in again, and all the remaining moisture, some patchy fog likely returns later tonight with the light winds, and with the lows down near 35, frost is also possible.

Then, for tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, it likely starts out with patchy fog and frost, then slowly becomes sunny in the afternoon with northeasterly winds 5-10, highs near 53, and with mostly clear skies tomorrow night and light winds, the lows drop to near 36, which opens us up to some frost again.

After that, the ridge continues to dominate the pattern, so we see sunny days and mostly clear nights Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, highs near 54, lows near 34. It continues to look like a disturbance will be riding up the ridge and bringing some clouds Sunday night into Monday with a slight chance of rain also by Monday night into Tuesday, highs near 54, lows near 36.

The Sneaker Wave threat eases today but it continues to look like we will have a more significant Sneaker Wave threat developing Friday that persists into Saturday. Add to this we are seeing increasing higher tides that reach 9.2’ in Garibaldi on Friday the 24th at around 10:00am. Saturday the 25th it reaches 9.5’ at 10:39am, on Sunday the 26th a 9.7’ at 11:58am and again on Monday the 27th at 11:58am. Then they start to lower each day, Tuesday the 28th 9.6’ at 12:37pm, and on Wednesday back down to 9.2’ at 1:16pm. After that they continue to fall into 8’ range. All this could again bring water onto the roads with minor Tidal Overflow Flooding in all the usual places around Nehalem, western Tillamook, and down toward Pacific City.

Stay Safe All…back on Friday 😊 Happy Thanksgiving Yall!
