GORDON’S WEEKLY WEATHER UPDATE: Summer Arrives for the 4th of July, through the weekend … Heat Warnings for Coast Range, Valley

Posted on July 1, 2024 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer

For those that have been asking me where Summer is, well, she is now knocking on the door! One indicator was the morning low temperatures only dropping to near 59. A look at the weather pattern shows a large upper level high pressure area dominating the eastern Pacific with the associated ridge building northward. We did see a weak disturbance ride in the flow and drop through the area overnight which led to a thicker marine layer this morning with some patchy mist or light drizzle in some areas. The clouds will break up and burn off leaving a sunny afternoon with the winds becoming northwesterly 8-12, today’s high temperature climbs to near 67. The marine clouds return tonight with light winds, lows near 51.

The ridge builds and slowly inches eastward toward the coast some tomorrow, and the marine clouds again burn off leaving a mostly sunny day with northerly winds 8-12 in the afternoon, the high near 65. We see fewer clouds move in tomorrow night, the winds ease, lows near 50.

The ridge really strengthens Wednesday bringing more sunshine with northwesterly winds 5-10, and the warmup begins with the high near 67, the overnight low, under mostly clear skies, around 50.

The Independence Day forecast looks pretty nice with a sunny day, the afternoon high temperature climbs to near 74, and with a mostly clear night and light winds, the low only drops to near 55.

After that, the ridge pattern persists bringing sunny days with the highs staying in the mid 70s, and with mostly clear nights, the low in the mid 50s.

If you are headed up into the Coast Range for the holiday, highs will be in the low 80s but if you plan to be there for the weekend, high temperatures climb up into the upper 80s to near 90. The valley heats up even more, the low 90s for the 4th, but the upper 90s over the weekend.
