The first King Tides of the season along with a powerful storm hammered the Oregon Coast the first week of November, and left the Netarts boat ramp and dock an absolute mess. By Friday, November 7, the storm and tides had substantially subsided, and park staff were busy removing over five dump trucks worth of sea grass and debris out of the boat ramp area, so access to the bay could be had by the fishing community. The ramp was cleared of most of the debris by mid-afternoon on Friday.
Despite making headway on the clean-up effort, park staff still had to find a way to repair the dock which had broken into three separate pieces. One section of the broken dock had been driven by the storm into the upper bank of the boat ramp area and had to be pulled up and out using a crane provided by Burden’s Towing Service. As planned, the damaged section of dock was placed on the nearby small parking lot for repair.

On Saturday, November 8, park staff met on-site with representatives of Sexton Construction out of Lincoln City to assess the damage to the dock and develop a repair strategy. As a result, it was arranged with Sexton Construction to have their crews show up on-site the morning of Monday, November 10 and begin the repair work. Park staff met again with crews when they arrived on-site on Monday morning and by the end of the day and at cost of nearly $10,000 the repairs to the dock had been completed.
Prior to the King Tide event and recent winter storm, Park staff has already been scheduled to meet with Sexton Construction in regard to the condition of the dock for the purpose of discussing details about the eventual replacement of the entire dock through a grant application to the State of Oregon, Marine Board’s Boating Facilities Program. The next grant application deadline is early January 2026, and parks intends to address not only the dock system but the stabilization of the inside shoreline as well.
