Set goals for Self-care
This first Full Moon in Cancer on the 3rd of January is a nudge from the Cosmos to consider how to care for ourselves in the New Year. Our current culture is all about how can we drive ourselves to be bigger and better, but this Moon is asking a different question. It is asking for us to look at what parts of ourselves that are tried of being strong.
The Full Moon is in Cancer is across from the Capricorn Sun. Cancer is a very heart centered sign that is the proverbial mother hen of the galaxy. Its intent is to love and nurture wherever possible. They love to cook and provide warm, cozy, safe environments for beings to flourish in. All feelings are welcome at their table.
Capricorn, on the other hand, are a very will driven sign that loves to accomplish things. There is no mountain too high for this sure-footed creature to conquer. They love the view from on top of that high mountain and can make gourmet salads from the weeds. They are manifesters but there is sheer will and determination involved.
This is very different from the desire of the Cancer Full Moon. This Moon illuminates where you are lacking in self-care. It shines its light on where you have emotional debt and emptiness. This is the sadness or (fill in the blank) that you have been carrying down deep in your soul that you feel shameful or guilty for having.
These are feelings that you have pushed away so that you can keep being strong but you feel the weight of them under this Moon’s gaze. This is a time to build a nest for those feelings and allow them. This is supported by the powerful conjunctions involved in this Moon.
The Moon is conjunct Jupiter which is considered the great amplifier. This conjunction exponentially magnifies the energy of the Cancer Moon –bringing up the feels! A host of emotions that have been repressed can surprisingly emerge the next few days. These emotions demand attention and care.
Right across from the Moon, conjunct the Sun are Mars and Venus. Venus brings energy to self-worth, relationships and beauty. Mars brings energy to action and focus. These two planets are on either side of the Sun like book-ends, shining their light on taking action for self-care and nurturing.
In light of this Moon energy, I challenge you to set some different goals/intentions for 2026. How about make a list of how you can nurture 2026? Things like “watch more sunsets, be more playful, and listen deeply.”
What are some intentions you can set that will give more room for your emotions that have been neglected? Perhaps like “Spend more time in nature, block out time that has no plans and take time to feel.”
This Moon will support these intentions and will hold you in a warm embrace that allows you to feel safe. This nurturing begins with you. Only you can care for you and that teaches everyone around you how to treat you.
Re-center, reconnect and give yourself a big hug! You are so brave and strong, you deserve to be cared for.
