GORDON’S WEEKLY WEATHER UPDATE 2/9/26: A couple dry days, then rain returns for weekend

Posted on February 9, 2026 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer

Boy, that was a wet weekend with over 1 1/2” of rain Saturday and Sunday, and we see a bit more today.  That was compliments of an atmospheric river that moved through the last couple of days and then was followed by a disturbance that gave us some showers today.  The persistent rain did increase the river levels some, but nothing significant.  The activity diminished by the afternoon as that disturbance continued to the east, taking the showers with it.  A ridge brings us partly cloudy skies tonight with calm winds, and this allows the low temperature to dip to near 35 degrees overnight.

Tomorrow and Wednesday look fair, dry and mild with light winds, the highs near 57, and with the mostly clear nights, and the calm winds, the low continues to drop to near 35.

By Thursday, the ridge will have drifted to the east, which allows the active pattern to return, which also brings a slight chance of rain in the afternoon Thursday, with a better chance of rain Thursday night thanks to an approaching front, highs near 58, with the increasing clouds, the lows near 38.

Friday on through the weekend looks wet with a front, then the low pressure trough brings rain across the area and cools things back down. This means some rain is likely Friday, with more rain possible Saturday and Sunday as well, the highs now in the low 50s, the overnight lows in the mid-30s.  This also means that we see lowering snow levels that could possibly bring some snow into the higher mountains in the Coast Range.

Finally, for you weather trivia folks, did you know that President Ulysses S. Grant signed a law on this date in 1870 to provide for taking meteorological observations at military installations in the interior of the continent?  A petition was submitted by a congressman the year before.

And that’s your Tillamook County weather update for the week.  Have a great one everyone.
