(Rockaway Beach, OR – 3/24/26) – Spring Break is underway on the North Oregon Coast, and Rockaway Beach continues to be a popular destination for families and visitors throughout the year. The first weekend of Spring Break brought sunny weather and increased activity throughout the community. With that activity, the City also experienced a serious incident that required an emergency response.
The City of Rockaway Beach extends its heartfelt concern and healing wishes to the family involved in the incident at the Wayside on Sunday, March 22. “Fortunately, reports indicate that everyone involved is expected to recover, thanks to the swift and professional response from our law enforcement officers and medical teams,” said City Manager Luke Shepard. Mayor Charles McNeilly added, “Our city remains a safe and welcoming place because of the dedication of our local law enforcement and the many community members who look out for one another.”
As Spring Break continues, the City reminds both visitors and residents to expect increased traffic and to use extra caution while traveling through coastal communities. The posted speed limit through Rockaway Beach is 20 miles per hour, and drivers are encouraged to remain attentive, patient, and mindful of pedestrians, cyclists, and families enjoying the area.
Rockaway Beach offers opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment year‑round, from its beaches and trails to shopping and dining, and the City appreciates everyone’s cooperation in helping keep the community safe during this busy season.
