It sounds innocent enough, SAVE (Save (Surpress) American Voter Eligibility) Act. This act favored by our “do nothing” Republican congress is about suppressing votes, not saving votes. It’s a solution to a non-existent problem. It’s a distraction while real problems like uncontrolled climate change, federal deficits, and inequality of wealth and income get worse and worse.
The SAVE Act also intends to end mail-in voting. It does not propose to do anything about the “normal flooding” we often have in early November.
Kansas and Utah are two states that have closely examined their voting populations. Utah found one non-citizen among 1,995,829 voters. Kansas actually passed a law similar to the SAVE act in 2011 that resulted in more than 31,000 people having their right to vote stolen from them. The League of Women Voters took the case to the Supreme Court and won.
The League of Women Voters, who have been around for more than 100 years, are totally non-partisan and totally against the SAVE act.
I judge the probability of my assessment being accurate as very high.
