Ron John Gienger was born here in Tillamook on the 7th of May, 1940 to John & Bernie Gienger. Ron was the third of the four Gienger kids, with two older sisters, Donna and Doreen and a younger brother, Larry, all of which grew up on the Gienger family farm. Ron attended Tillamook schools all the way through childhood, first at Long Prairie and then at Tillamook High where he graduated in the Spring of 1958.
Ron started his university career in Eugene at the UofO, where he not only studied but became a lifetime member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in the spring of 1962 and moved to get his Master’s degree at the Thunderbird School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona, where he graduated in 1963.
Ron was hired immediately by Chase Manhattan Bank, where he would work domestically and internationally until 1974. He spent a number of those years in the Caribbean, helping to establish Chase Manhattan banks on several islands including Barbados.
In 1974, Ron moved back home and bought the family farm. In late December of 1979, Ron met and later married Marianne Johnson. They were wed in Marianne’s backyard in Beaverton, but moved to live on the farm, where they would reside until Ron’s retirement in 2003.
Ron and Marianne loved to travel. Destinations included stops in Europe, Hawaii, Ron’s old stomping grounds in the Caribbean, as well as places all over the US. Ron’s love of the
U of O made him an ardent supporter and football season ticket holder for many years.
What followed was a list of organizations that he supported and served. On the list Civic Advisory Board, AH Regional Medical Center, Tillamook County Fair Board, Tillamook YMCA, TBCC Foundation Board and the Tillamook Kiwanis Club. He and Marianne were also faithful members here at FCC for the past two decades.
