Market time again! Friday 4-7 as always. I know you don’t have enough to do this time of year already, but this is a great time to think about preserving the season’s bounty! Harvests are at their peak, and it’s a great time to stock up on the summer goodness to help last through the winter. Here’s some ideas for ways to preserve the market bounty:
-Berries and tomatoes freeze like a breeze: just put them in a bag and you’re done!
-Stone fruit and peppers also freeze easily with just a bit more prep, usually you want to take out the pits or seeds and cut them up a bit, but they hold up great
-Make jam! Berries, peaches, tomatoes, you name it…
-Make pickles or relish: fermented, vinegar, canned, or just refrigerator pickles. We have a new farmer coming this week who specializes in melons, but he’ll also be stocked up on pickling cucumbers and dill. Find him at Plum Tummy Gardens!
-Freeze pesto, or any herb ground up in oil
-Dry fruit, tomatoes, herbs, or make kale chips
-Can pickles, tomatoes, sauces, salsas, jams, and more
-Load up the freezer with meat from Lance’s Farm Vittles or Sunbeam Farm
What’s your favorite way to preserve? You can always come talk to us, give us feedback, or share concerns about the market at the market info booth, just inside the entrance. Come say hello! You can buy a tote bag or 2026 market poster while you’re there and support our SNAP match program.
Music this week is by Joshua Cox, folk rooted and acoustic driven. See you Friday, 4-7, at 635 Manzanita Ave behind City Hall!
