The Tillamook Association for the Performing Arts’ (TAPA) newest production, “Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play”, opens September 4th! Sponsored by Cyndi Lewis of Rob Trost Real Estate, “Vintage Hitchcock” is a unique theatrical experience that combines classic suspense with the nostalgia of old-fashioned radio. Tickets are available now at tillamooktheater.com or by calling the TAPA box office at 503-812-0275.
Set in the style of a live radio broadcast, this production brings three Hitchcock stories to life on stage: “The Lodger,” a suspenseful tale surrounding a mysterious tenant; “Sabotage,” which follows a woman who begins to suspect her husband may be involved in something sinister; and “The 39 Steps,” a fast-paced adventure involving mistaken identity, danger, and a man caught up in an international conspiracy.
Part of the charm of “Vintage Hitchcock” is the chance to step back in time to an era when families gathered around the radio to listen to the next episode of their favorite program. And in a way, audiences can choose how they experience the show. Close your eyes for a moment and simply listen as the voices, music, and sound effects give you everything you need to imagine the story unfolding in your own mind. Open your eyes again, and you get the added experience of watching the actors and Foley artists create that world right in front of you. It’s a little bit of theater and a little bit of imagination, just as radio has always invited its listeners to do.

The actors in “Vintage Hitchcock” take on multiple characters throughout the production, sometimes switching between roles within the same story, while Foley artists create the live sound effects that bring each scene to life. From footsteps and doors opening to animals and countless other sounds, watching these effects being created on stage adds another entertaining layer to the experience.
With suspense, humor, classic storytelling, and a healthy dose of nostalgia, “Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play” offers audiences a chance to experience these familiar stories in an entirely different way. Come settle in, listen closely and let the stories unfold, just like the good old days, when the whole family gathered around the radio to find out what would happen next.
“Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play” is sponsored by Cyndi Lewis of Rob Trost Real Estate and runs September 4th through September 20th. Friday & Saturday shows start at 7:00 pm, Sunday shows start at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available at tillamooktheater.com or by calling the TAPA box office at 503-812-0275.
