Tillamook County Parks Foundation undertakes a lofty goal — one park at a time
The Tillamook County Parks Foundation likes to think big. Making our county parks a shining example of park stewardship is a worthy cause. And it will happen with planning, working with communities and volunteers, fundraising, and getting the work done, park by park. The good news is the vision is already underway, thanks to the work of county parks leadership and staff, with support from the Foundation.
Starting in 2025, Barview Jetty Park, the largest of the county parks, completed several upgrades, including the Bradley K. Webster Community Shelter as a place for group gatherings. It’s complete with tables, chairs, sinks and 25 parking spaces. In addition, six new cabins were added, each big enough to accommodate six people. Upcoming improvements include traffic management at the entrance to the park, a new fee station and an ADA-accessible fee booth. The park gets continual updates to its 315 campsites, upgrading utilities to better service RVs and tent campers.
Other county parks are getting upgrades, too. The Netarts Boat Launch will soon be repaired, along with a new community-led Netarts Enhancement Project. This will add several native plant gardens, a large sitting area and gazebo, space for picnics, open-air festivals and concerts, and ADA-compliant pathways for easy access. Plans for Webb County Campground in Pacific City may include moving and enlarging the popular park.
“Our goal of having the best county parks in the state is lofty one,” said Dan Keyes, director of Tillamook County Parks. “It will take a few years, improving one park and boat launch at a time. But with the help of the Parks Foundation, community donations and volunteers, we will meet our goal.”
Tillamook County Parks Department oversees six campgrounds and 17 boat launches. The nonprofit Tillamook County Parks Foundation raises funds for park improvements, boat launches, and conservation projects.
