The jig is up. Say bye-bye, and scurry off the sinking ship, you rats. You’ve got only 3 months left.
Okay, that’s enough crowing. And I realize I may have to eat my words. But for today, at least, I’m going to indulge in a bit of optimistic imaginings—with good cause. The signs are there. Democrats are stepping up to the plate and swinging for the fences. (I do like baseball metaphors.) More and more Democratic voters are showing up to the polls in primary elections. Abdul El-Sayed won in Michigan; more importantly Democratic turnout far surpassed voters in the republican primary. Momentum is the name of the game. The enthusiasm is there. Democrats, Independents, and disaffected Republicans are on to the scam, and no longer willing or able to support the corruption and ineptitude of the current trumpy regime and his “leadership” by former Fox News hosts. Hi Jeannine Piro.
Of course, the immediate trump-stooge reaction to El-Sayed’s win is to brand him as a “terrorist” and a communist, someone who supported the 9/11 attack. It’s not-so-thinly veiled racism and a sign of their increasing nervousness. What’s to become of Petey and Kash, and little Stevie M. once the fat king tries to skedaddle away with his stolen billions? The people have seen through this version of the republican playbook—the attempt to subvert the role of congress and the electorate, the endless attacks on the middle-class and the immigrant communities, the insider trading, the vile persecutions of perceived enemies of the prezident, the corruption of the justice department, the insane wars that make us enemies around the world. This madness must stop soon. The mid-term elections for both the House and the Senate look primed for a Democratic take-over. But voters must continue to shout out to the heavens and make their voices heard—loudly. We’re in the ninth inning, with only a one-run lead.
I can hear you barking back at me, fellow lovers of freedom. Please, Butch, don’t get cocky. Remember what happened in 2024. We all thought Kamala would win in a landslide. Well, at least I did. And, sure, I have my doubts and worries. Nightmares, in fact. But I’m choosing to look at the situation now as a glass half-full. And, believe me, I’m normally on the half-empty side of liquid refreshments. But this opportunity is too big to let negativity slow our roll. Sure, it’s still going to be a massive battle. And those frightened-for-their lives republican punks, led by the blithering, toupeed leader will try every possible, ugly way to subvert the elections. Maybe they’ll even command the military into polling places, and certainly what’s left of the injustice department will attempt to dispute every Democratic victory. But this isn’t 2024. Things change quickly when this level of venality constantly shows its ugly face.
I don’t believe the voters will stand for illegal judicial interference. Not when they can no longer afford to pay their rent, or afford to see a doctor, or send their kids to college. We will vote the blood-suckers out, and then take on the evil king. It’s happened before. Think McCarthy, think Viktor Orban, think Gaddafi. It didn’t end well for those dudes. It ain’t gonna end well for our own Nero, fiddling away. But Rome will not burn this time. Instead the voters will put out the trash fire that is trump and his lap dogs.
