To The Editor:
Politics has changed drastically for me in the past decade. The decision on who to vote for used to be the result of research – candidate positions, voting records, speeches. Party affiliation never mattered much nor did questions of character since I assumed all the candidates at least had good intentions.
That assumption has gone out the window in recent years. The process I go through today is much different. I still do my research but what I’m looking for first in a candidate is integrity, compassion, honesty and a genuine desire to make the country better. Policy differences can be worked out if both sides – whether it be individuals or political parties – come to the table and negotiate in good faith.
A lifelong Republican, Mr. Javadi found himself more and more at odds with the direction that party was taking and decided to become a Democrat. Many people called him a traitor and worse. I heartily disagree with that opinion. Mr. Javadi did not stay with the Republican party in order to acquire power, he didn’t stay silent, he didn’t quit and he didn’t abandon his convictions as many of his fellow Republicans have done. He stayed true to himself and his principles and took the road that allowed him to use his voice to help the people of Tillamook County weather the current political atmosphere.
Cyrus Javadi lives and works in Tillamook County and understands our challenges and needs at a deep level. I don’t expect to agree with Mr. Javadi on every issue but I can depend upon him to listen and give my viewpoint the respect it deserves.
That is the kind of person I want for State Representative for District #32. Please join me in supporting Cyrus Javadi this November.
