During the City Council meeting of the City of Bay City on June 9, 2026, the City Council took a few minutes to recognize the members of the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department. As stated by Mayor Liane Welch, “Your commitment to serving and supporting our community is an inspiration for us all. Especially during the past two years, your dedication and heroic efforts gave us the confidence to research, support, and advocate for a new fire district.”
Council President and Fire Liaison Kathleen Baker, who was also elected as a director on the board of the new district, said “Although the Bay City Fire Department will transition into the new Tillamook Bay Fire & Rescue RFPD effective July 1, 2026, the members of the current department will continue serving our community as part of a larger organization. We thank you for your continued service to our community.”
Fire Chief Alan Christensen said, “This transition reflects a significant milestone. While Bay City Fire and Tillamook Fire have engaged in discussion over the past 35 years, achieving alignment and equity in the fire service mission has often been challenging. What makes this moment different is the collective commitment to move beyond those challenges and focus on what matters most: the safety, service, and future of the communities we serve.”
The City Council also had the first reading of Ordinance No. 720, which will introduce Firewise recommendations into the Bay City Development Code.
