CITY OF TILLAMOOK: Tillamook City Councilor Doug Henson Passes Away April 28th

Posted on May 7, 2024 by Editor

On Sunday, April 28, 2024, long term resident, business owner, and City Councilor, Doug Henson passed away peacefully.
Councilor Henson served on the City Council from 2003 to 2006, and then again from 2011 until his passing. During his many years of dedicated service, Councilor Henson was involved in many projects and programs to help build and strengthen the City of Tillamook and our community. For example, he was instrumental in starting the Tillamook Revitalization Association (TRA), the Tillamook Urban Renewal Agency (TURA), the annual City Tree Lighting Ceremony for the Christmas Season, and the
Tillamook Farmer’s Market.
He was also very dedicated and involved in helping the City construct a Skateboard Park at Goodspeed Park and a Dog Park at the Ironworks Bark Park. While his death preceded the final project, Councilor Henson worked endlessly on designing, obtaining the funding, and submitting permits to construct the City’s first Veteran’s Memorial Plaza which will be located on the ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) piece of property between Main Avenue and Pacific Avenue, north of 1st Street.
Councilor Henson was a strong supporter of the Council-Manager form of government and worked sideby-side with City Manager, Nathan George, as well as the Mayor and City Council, to help make Tillamook a better community. Councilor Henson wanted nothing more than to continually make Tillamook a better place to live, work, and play.
The City wants to sincerely honor the life and dedication of Councilor Doug Henson for his many years of dedicated service to our community and we ask that others join us in doing so.
