Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay Annual Meeting to Address Local Earthquake and Tsunami Hazards April 22

Posted on April 19, 2019

The public is invited to attend the annual meeting of the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay on Monday, April 22 at 1 p.m. at the Pine Grove Community House in Manzanita.
Dr. Chris Goldfinger, PhD, a professor of Geology and Geophysics at Oregon State University and world-renowned expert on the Cascadia Subduction Zone, will be the featured speaker at the event. He will discuss in detail the earthquake and tsunami hazards faced by the Nehalem Bay Region.

Goldfinger was one of the first researchers to prove the existence of the Zone, which lies off the Oregon and Washington coasts. He was also in Japan in March 2011, and experienced the magnitude 9+ Tohoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
