Garibaldi invites public to join its big celebration July 27-28-29

Posted on July 20, 2018April 3, 2020 by Editor

Garibaldi, OR – The City of Garibaldi — Oregon’s authentic Fishing Village – invites the public to attend its 58th annual “Garibaldi Days” festival. The three-day weekend celebration begins Friday, July 27 and ends Sunday, July 29, 2018. Garibaldi is located 10 miles north of Tillamook on coastal Highway 101.

This year’s event features two free live rock concerts with a beer garden and food vendors, a firework show over Tillamook Bay, a parade down Highway 101, craft vendor marketplace and food booths. The historic Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad train will be making trips to nearby Rockaway Beach daily at 10:00 am, Noon, 2:00 and 4:00 pm. In addition, there will be several competitions, including a softball game, between the U.S. Coast Guard Tillamook Bay Station and the Garibaldi Fire Department.

On Friday, featured events include a wine tasting and silent auction kickoff at the Garibaldi Museum, vendors booths open at 10:00 am until 7:00 pm, an 80’s style rock n’ roll show with performances by the band TLS Journey will feature rock hits from the 80’s till 10:00 pm. The concert will be held at the Port Event Tent located on Jerry Creasy Way off Highway 101. The beer garden and food vendors will open. Also, that evening, live music will be performed at the Ghost Hole Public House, this year’s fireworks sponsor, and at the Parkside Lounge and Kelly’s Place.
“Once again, we are very excited to share our small-town celebration with friends and family” said Garibaldi Mayor Suzanne McCarthy. “We look forward to this three-day celebration every year. We’ve got great family friendly free rock concerts and a variety of events around town. It’s a weekend of fun for everyone!”
On Saturday, the annual Garibaldi Day Parade begins at 11:00 am along Highway 101. Craft vendors will again be open, starting at 10:00 am curbside on Highway 101, between 3rd and 6th streets. Boat tours at the Port-Coast Guard, Tillamook County Sheriff and others open for guided tours. The Reptile Man will be preforming two shows, along with a shellfish touch tank and kid’s fishing pond at Lumberman’s Park. The famous waterball tug-of-war contest between local fire departments and the US Coast Guard will start at 3 pm on Biak Avenue. The newly renovated Piers End Boathouse will be open for tours down Bay Lane.
At 7 pm, the second free concerts features Bon Jovi tribute band Steelhorse, with some of the most dynamic musicians and performers in the Northwest. Following the concert, visitors will be entertained with a spectacular firework show over the bay at 10:00 pm. The fun continues with live music at the Ghost Hole Public House, and at the Parkside Lounge and Kelly’s Place.
The festival continues on Sunday with vendors booths opening at 10:00 am and the Piers End Boathouse open again for tours down Bay Lane until 4:00 pm. The final event is the Coast Guard versus Fire Department softball game, starting at 12 Noon at the Garibaldi Grade School field.
The Garibaldi Days Firework Sponsor is the Ghost Hole Public House for the second year in a row. Other sponsors include the Tillamook County Library, Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife, Columbia Distributing, Oregon Tuna Classic, Pacific Office Automation, US Bank, Greenwood Resources, and more.
The City of Garibaldi was named by its first postmaster Daniel B. Bayley, who came to Tillamook County during the 1860s. He was an admirer of the Italian general Giuseppe Garibaldi — who unified Italy — and so named the town in 1879. Garibaldi was incorporated as a city in 1946.
