GORDON’S UPDATE: Weather 10/23/23 – First Frost, Cold Temperatures Coming …

Posted on October 23, 2023 by Editor

We were between systems today so other than some morning mist we just saw some clouds that did give an area or two some patchy light rain or drizzle. Next on the weather agenda is a system dropping southward from western Canada that will drop down late tonight and give us an increasing chance of rain after midnight, the winds tonight becoming light and variable, lows near 43.

Tomorrow, we have a cold front that will bring us some rain with the winds becoming westerly 10-15 gusting to 20, the high only near 54. The front pushes through tomorrow night then in comes some upper level colder unstable air from the north that enhances the shower activity and gives us a chance of thunderstorms, and the chance continues tomorrow night, still the westerly winds 10-15 gusting to 20, the low near 40.

Wednesday the colder air continues to spill in making showers likely with that chance of thunderstorms during the day, wind westerly 5-10, highs near 52. This also pulls the snow level down to near 2700’ which means the higher Coast Range mountains could see some snow. Wednesday night there is still a 30% chance of some showers. The winds die down, and with partly cloudy skies and the cooler air, the low drops to near 36.

There is still a chance of afternoon showers on Thursday with partly sunny skies, the high near 53, but with mostly cloudy skies that night the low only drops to near 38, and we still have that chance of showers in the northwesterly flow.

Friday, we continue to see that chance of showers, the snow level down near 2500’ with the high near 53. Friday night the shower chance eases, which is good as the snow level drops to around 1700’ around midnight, the early morning low temperatures drop down close to 33.

With the temperatures down close to freezing, morning frost is possible so remember to protect your plants. Conditions improve Saturday and we see sunny skies, the highs still only up near 54. Saturday night looks mostly clear so with radiational cooling, the low again drops to near 32.

Early morning frost is possible again Sunday morning, the high up near 55, the low with partly cloudy skies down near 34.

My first look into next week … I will go out on a limb today and give a Halloween Forecast Oct. 31st, it appears it should be partly cloudy with highs around 54, with overnight lows falling to near 42. The question is…there appears, right now anyway, that another system brings in a chance of precipitation later Wednesday. This far out though, the forecast could change bringing the rain in sooner…or even later!
