GORDON’S WEEKLY WEATHER UPDATE 8/24/26: Summer continues…not much change until later in week with weak systems giving us some slightly cooler temperature, slight chance of rain!

Posted on August 24, 2026 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamomook County Pioneer
We had another cloudy misty morning to start in some parts of Tillamook County, thanks to the onshore flow, but the clouds cleared leaving us with another fair, dry, and mild day. This is thanks to a building upper level ridge of high pressure. Because of the more northerly surface flow today, we likely see a hazy sunset then tonight the marine clouds return and with the calm winds, the overnight low is near 57.

Tomorrow there is a trough of low pressure to the northwest, that will push the ridge eastward some as it swings a weak disturbance across, so we can expect a mostly cloudy day at best with southwesterly winds 5-10, that will also push the smoke back to the north and northeast, the high temperature tomorrow only near 67. Tomorrow night we have a return of the thickening marine layer with the usual calm winds and patchy fog, the low near 55.

There is little change in the pattern Wednesday and Thursday with the ridge weakened because of the trough over the northeast Pacific, so we see the usual cloudy foggy start to the day that burns back slowly leaving a mostly sunny afternoon with the usual onshore flow 4-8, the highs near 67. Then the clouds and patchy fog, along with the calm winds return each night, the lows near 52.

We could see some light drizzle in the early morning hours Friday as a weak disturbance pushes through, otherwise the sunny skies slowly return again in the afternoon, the high near 66, the stratus clouds come back that night, lows near 52.

A weak front moves across Saturday so we keep the cloudy to mostly cloudy skies, with a slight chance of light rain, the high near 65, the partly cloudy skies return Saturday night, the low drops down to near 49.

The models suggest partly to mostly sunny skies return Sunday with a weak ridge moving across, the high near 66, we could see the marine clouds trying to return Sunday night, otherwise we see the partly cloudy nighttime skies with the low near 51.

The only other thing to mention is the Sturgeon Full Moon on the 28th, or this Friday. Obviously this was named for the lake fish traditionally caught in late summer. If you are into watching the planets, Venus can be seen in the western sky just after sunset, then just before midnight Saturn is to the east. Mars and Jupiter are available for viewing in the morning skies just before dawn. All of this viewing is threatened by the usual morning fog and stratus here at the coast.

That’s it, I’ll see everyone next week.
