Please join Indivisible Tillamook Coast Action along with other locally concerned residents for a kayak protest paddle to help raise awareness of this federal administration’s unfettered dismantling of important environmental protections.
WHEN: Saturday, July 25th launching at 9:30 a.m. with an estimated 2 hour paddle.
WHERE: We will be launching from the Wheeler boat launch/kayak launch on Marine Drive, just west of Highway 101 in downtown Wheeler
WHAT TO BRING: Equally concerned friends, your kayak (or canoe, SUP, or rowboat!), paddles, personal floatation device, weather appropriate attire, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, snack and water. Optional but recommended: American flag to fasten to the back of your PFD to show your support for our democracy, a sign to display your environmental concern of choice (Stop the cutting of personnel and funding in National Parks, reducing national monument land, mining and drilling in environmentally sensitive areas that were formerly protected, roll back of climate change initiatives, increased logging for profit in national forests, etc.)
HOW: We plan to begin our paddle from the Wheeler boat dock at 9:30 a.m. and, with the tide and breeze moving with us, to paddle a one way trip to Nehalem. So please plan to drop off your boat and gear at around 9:00 a.m. We will arrange for some vehicles to be parked in Nehalem to be able to transport paddlers back to Wheeler to pick up the remaining vehicles. If you prefer to not paddle all of the way to Nehalem, you are welcome to return to Wheeler at any time. Another option is to take out at the Tillamook County Boat Launch on the west side of 101 near the bridge off Tideland Road. You will need to arrange for transportation to your vehicle using this option. Each paddler is responsible for themself, including their own safety and to ensure a transportation plan back to their vehicle.
WHY: To have fun, to enjoy the beauty of our north coast environment, to meet new friends and, most importantly, to raise awareness and support for reinstatement and support of crucial environmental protections.
Please keep an eye on the weather and wind during the week. As always, for safety with coastal boating we will need to be flexible!
