It’s been my privilege to work closely with the campaigns for Brandon Affolter, Amanda Ferrat, Jordon Wolfe, and Irene Barajas and they all have my support because I know with certainty that they will do great work on their Boards. They are united in their desire to:
- Have our schools be havens of safety and tolerance for our communities, by honoring diversity and inclusion for all.
- Promote transparent and clear communication from the board to all staff and families, ensuring that everyone has access to the information they need.
- Attract and retain well qualified teachers, who will promote the values of diversity, equity and inclusion and make everyone feel welcome and protected.
Some members of our community do not agree with these values. They prefer to have all children indoctrinated with rigid, ultra-conservative beliefs. They want our school curriculum to be based in strict, fundamental religious dogma.
They have been trolling several of the candidates with hateful, personal attacks and want to impose their doctrine on all of us. I believe that the silent majority of county residents agree with the principles that these recommended board candidates want to foster in our public schools.
Amanda and Irene are already on their respective boards and have proven track records. All have extensive experience with public education and deep commitments to the wellbeing of each child. Their shared purpose is to ensure that all of our kids receive the education necessary to be responsible citizens and successful in life. A vote for each of these candidates is a vote for strong public education.
