Mary Leverette, a resident of Wheeler, has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Nehalem Bay Health District board of directors.
Leverette was unanimously selected by the Health District board during its February 26, 2025 board meeting. She will fill out the remainder of the term of former board member Lynda Chick, who resigned late last year. Leverette was recently elected to the Wheeler City Council, and she has been very active in the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay and also serves as coordinator of the annual Wheeler Clean Up Day. Leverette has an MS degree in psychology from Portland State University and before permanently relocating to Wheeler five years ago worked for the City of Portland’s Office of Sustainable Development and before that for the Mental Health & Developmental Disability Services Division of the State of Oregon.

“Our board is delighted that Mary has stepped up at a critical time for the Health District and our communities,” said Marc C. Johnson, board president. “Her experience, enthusiasm and wisdom will ensure that she is an immediate contributor helping further the District’s mission to facilitate delivery of health & community services in North Tillamook County.”
The Health District is currently developing the new Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy in Wheeler with construction expected to be complete in September 2025, renovating the region’s only skilled nursing facility the Nehalem Valley Care Center and planning development of workforce housing on District owned property.
