And here we are into day 10 of the month and so far, we have had one tenth of an inch of rain, which we got on the 1st day of August. The hottest day so far was when we hit 81, which was the 4th, and that was after an overnight low of 43 degrees the night before. As the average rainfall for the Tillamook area is around an inch and a half, we are a little short this year and it looks like we will be staying fair, dry and mild this week also. A quick look at the models shows we are in a zonal, or west to east flow in the upper atmosphere, and we still have onshore winds at the surface, so other than the marine layer, we look to have mostly sunny afternoons all week that are smoke free. So, back comes the marine clouds tonight with light winds, the overnight low near 52.
The mostly sunny skies return tomorrow, the afternoon winds becoming northwesterly 5-10, tomorrow’s high temperature near 70. Increasing clouds again tomorrow night, the winds diminish, lows near 57.
It appears by Wednesday we are watching an upper level disturbance moving south into Washington and Oregon that will do little except to thicken the marine layer that morning and maybe give the area a misty morning, otherwise, the clouds slowly clear leaving a mostly sunny afternoon with the afternoon winds still northwesterly 5-10, the high near 68. Some marine clouds return Wednesday night, with diminishing winds, the low near 53.
Thursday there is some differences in the models as to what the trough of low pressure will do. It is looking like we will still see a mostly sunny afternoon Thursday with the high back up around 69. The clouds return that night, the low near 55.
If the trough lingers over the area Friday, we likely see less clearing with only partly sunny skies, the high still near 70 though, then in comes the marine layer Friday night, lows near 54.
I see little change for the weekend, so the mornings start out cloudy but clear off leaving us with mostly sunny afternoons, the highs still near 70 each day, then the marine clouds return each night with the lows near 55.
For the sky gazers, we are looking at a Six-planet Parade this week that peaks on the 12th, along with meteor shower on the 12th and 13th. So, watch, if you can, in the pre-dawn hours we will have Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn, all visible to the naked eye, while Uranus and Neptune will be there also, but you need binoculars and a telescope to see those two. Also, during this time there is the Perseid Meteor Shower, which happens to be around the new moon period, which should help with the viewing. Now, there is some chatter on social media sites that this will cause all kinds of things, like a gravity blackout, and that NASA is preparing for the event. We can all relax, fact checkers, and Gordon, all agree, this is yet another hoax! This is not the first time this alignment has taken place!
