NBFR is capping 2024 Fire Prevention Week with a community event with LOTS of displays and activities. Many great partners are joining NBFR: Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay, Caring for the Coast, Tillamook County Emergency Communications District – Tillamook 911, Oregon Department of Forestry (Smokey the Bear will be making an appearance) AND MORE.

There are lots of activities for all ages including:

  • Cooking fire demo at 11 am
  • Storytime from 11 am to 1:30 pm
  • Sparky, the Fire Dog (get a photo)
  • Vehicle extrication demo at 2 pm
  • Junior firefighter obstacle course for kids
  • Station and engine tours
  • Dress like a firefighter
  • Color contest display
  • Water spray
  • Medical equipment demo
  • Emergency preparedness displays
  • Popcorn and more!

This year’s theme for Fire Prevention week is “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!”
Here are some safety tips:

  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area (like a hallway), and on each level (including the basement) of the home.
  • Make sure smoke alarms meet the needs of all family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
  • Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pushing the test button.
  • Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old or don’t respond when tested.

To learn more about Fire Prevention Week and this year’s theme, “Smoke alarms: Make them work or you!” visit fpw.org. Additional Fire Prevention Week resources for children, caregivers, and educators can be found at sparky.org and sparkyschoolhouse.org.

Join Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue for a day of firehouse fun – 36375 Highway 101 N, Nehalem on Saturday October 11th from 10 am to 3 pm
