North County Recreation District (NCRD) Celebrates 25 Year Anniversary Sept. 30th & Oct. 1st

Posted on September 27, 2022 by Editor

In November of 1996, the voters passed Measure 29-29 with over a 60% majority forming the North County Recreation District. On July 1, 1997 NCRD came into existence. In the beginning we consisted of the Pool, a one room Fitness Center and a Teen Center that was open on the weekends. We were a Community Center that was the meeting place for a myriad of local organizations and TBCC offered classes in the old school building designed by renowned Portland architect A.E. Doyle originally built in 1920.

NCRD didn’t own anything back then. We were tenants in the building. The original tax base was intended to support the three existing programs and cover minor maintenance and upkeep to the building. We didn’t acquire ownership of the building until 2002.

Today, NCRD owns all of it’s properties outright. This includes the building, and the adjoining property all the way down to the North Fork Road with the Pickle Ball Courts, four lots adjacent to the beautifully renovated Performing Arts Center designated for future parking, and Rex Champ Field.

We have a modern, well-equipped Fitness Center, a Youth Center, Youth Sports, Yoga, a wide range of fitness classes both on land and in the water. We continue to operate our 92 year old swimming pool and we continue to be dedicated to preserving the School Swim Program which has enabled every child in our community to learn water safety and swimming skills since it was built for that purpose in 1930.

Come join us at NCRD Friday September 30th and Saturday October 1st as we celebrate our beginning and all we have achieved over the last 25 years!
On Friday September 30th, FREE classes, tours and more on Friday including a family movie night planned…we aren’t allowed to post what movie we are playing HOWEVER I can tell you it was released last year (2021). It stars Tom Holland and Zendaya and it involves an 8 legged arachnid.
So join us for our FREE family movie night September 30 at 6:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center.
On Saturday, October 1st there’s more fun with giveaways, music, food, cake and fun.
Celebrate with us!
