George was born on April 4, 1939 in Hillsboro OR to Eva Smith and George H. Madsen. Where they lived until they moved to the Netarts area of Tillamook County. He attended the Tillamook school district. George enjoyed 3 years of wood shop, 1 year Mech. Drawing, also he had a love for working on model planes (gasoline powered) for 7yrs. After 4 months into his 12th grade, George enlisted into the PVT, Oregon National Guard (infantry) in San Diego, CA. from Sept. 1955 – Dec. 1956. This is where he received his G.E.D. He left the Army National Guard with an Honorable Discharge as a Private E-3, Heavy Mortar Co. 186th Inf. 41st Infantry Division. In March of 1957, George enlisted into U.S. Navy, where he moved up in rank. Then on June 25th 1959, he became a NTC for Boilerman 3. Where he was on the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) at Alameda, CA. While on the USS Bon Homme Richard he saw many countries that a young man from Tillamook County would not be able to have seen otherwise. Prior to his Honorable Discharge from the US Navy on Dec. 18th 1961, he met the love of his life by pure accident, Bona Madrid Pena. They were Married in the Church of St. Aloysius in Tulare CA. on July 29th 1960. Before moving back to Netarts OR. There they started their family, 3 girls and 1 boy. George and Bona moved to Tillamook OR for a few years before moving to South Prairie for a couple more. They moved to Bay City OR in 1969, and raised their family. He started working for the Diamand Lumber (plywood div.) from 1961 to 1962. The mill then changed hands to Tillamook Veneer from April, 1963 to June, 1980. Then the mill changed hands once again to Louisiana Pacific Plywood Mill where George work with them from June,1980 to April, 1982, before its closing. He then went to work for McRae & Sons Paint handle factor in Bay City OR. from March, 1988 to March, 1994, before retiring. He also worked at Coast Hardwood Mill in Tillamook, Norm & Judy crab stand in Bay City, Hayes Oyster Company in Bay City, Smith Pacific Shrimp in Garibaldi. Anything and everything to keep food on the table and the bills paid. He enjoyed dancing at the Antiki, Roller skating at Bay Ocean auditorium in their younger days. George and Bona enjoyed camping (for months at a time sometimes) building dams for deeper swimming holes. Loved swimming, hunting and fishing. wheeling in the snow, riding quads with his son, Sunday drives with the family, and just being with all his family. He is survived by his wife Bona Madsen, Daughters Donna Finnell (Jon Finnell), Barbara Coleman, Linda Scovel (Rick Scovel), and Son George H. Madsen (partner Deanna Brunson).
