OBITUARY: James Charles Power – August 4, 1934 – January 31, 2024

James Charles Power, husband of 63 years to Nancy Ann (Coates) Power, dad to Kathy Power, Jim D. Power (Annette), grandfather to Sarah Merriman (Justin), Matthew Devlin, Brad Power, Rachel Power and great grandfather to Will Merriman, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024 at the age of 89.
He was preceded in death by his father James Miles Power, Helen Power and his sister Shirley Knutson.
Jim was born on August 4, 1934 in Tacoma Washington. He later moved to Vashon Island with his family and lived there from 5th -11th grade.
He graduated from Stadium High school in 1952 and was a standout player on the varsity tennis team. He attended Washington State University and College of Puget Sound (now University of Puget Sound) graduating with a degree in accounting and became a CPA.
He moved his family to Tillamook Oregon where he opened up his own firm and was an accountant for the next 46 years and retired when he was 78.
Jim was very involved in his community. He was a charter member of the Prudent Plungers Investment Club, an active member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, a board member at the YMCA and Pioneer Museum Foundation, a Tillamook Festivals committee Member and a life member of the B.P.O.E.
His interests included handball, tennis, golf, skiing, sailing, traveling and building model ships.
There will be a memorial service for Jim on February 17, 2024 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church at 2pm. Following there will be a celebration of his life from 3-5 at Alderbrook Golf Course.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tillamook YMCA or the Marie Mills Center.
