OBITUARY: Sylvia G. Goeres – March 10, 1929 – January 1, 2024

Posted on January 4, 2024 by Editor

Sylvia G. (Wynia) Goeres was born on March 10, 1929 in Murdo, SD to Klaas and Viola Wynia. She was the first of their six children. Sylvia peacefully went to be with Jesus at Five Rivers Retirement Center, under the special care of staff and hospice on January 1, 2024.

At age six, Sylvia migrated with her parents and extended family members to Tillamook County, where she attended almost every school in the county. She graduated from Tillamook High School in 1947.

Meeting Erwin W. Goeres at the Grange Hall started a relationship that led to marriage on February 16, 1948.

During their 56 years of marriage, they produced five children, ran a dairy farm for over 30 years and Gabby’s restaurant for 25 years.

To supplement their income in those early years, Sylvia sold Avon, greeting cards and was a rural mail carrier. Later, she received her real estate license, the fruition of a life long dream.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and their twins, Danny L. Goeres and Diane L. Gardner.

She is survived by her daughters: Dorothy L. Godley and Pat N. Newman; son: Mark W. Goeres; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Sylvia was laid to rest on Friday, January 5, 2024 next to Erwin at Sunset Heights Cemetery.

A celebration of life is planned for March 9, 2024, the day before what would have been her 95th birthday.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Tillamook Adventist Health hospice, would be appreciated. They provided care for Sylvia twice.
