Vern Ray Scovell was born November 26, 1930 in Portland, Oregon to Mark and Myrtle (McDonough) Scovell, and passed away June 9, 2026 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 95.
Vern attended school at the Nehalem Union High School in Nehalem, Oregon. After school, he joined the National Guard. He was a man of many talents, working as a butcher, where he owned/operated The Friendly Meat Company, a logger, owner/operator of Nehalem River Dredging Company, and as a land developer, where he helped shape Riverview Meadows in Nehalem, Oregon.
He enjoyed working hard, telling stories and drinking beer with his friends.
Vern is survived by his two children; son Lindy and wife, Irene Scovell, and daughter Karen and husband, David DeVault, both of Nehalem, Oregon. His grandchildren, Heather Thompson of Tillamook, Oregon, Clint Scovell of Jefferson, Oregon, Chad DeVault of Beaverton, Oregon, and Amy Smith of Carbondale, Colorado, and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Nehalem Cemetery, on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM; with a Celebration of Life to follow at the White Clover Grange in Nehalem, Oregon from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
