OBITUARY: Victor Wendell Lane – May 12, 1923 – November 27, 2023

Victor Wendell Lane was born May 12, 1923 in Cloverdale, Oregon to Welta Victor Lane and Dure Rogers Lane.

Wendell attended 1st grade in a one room schoolhouse on the edge of the playground of the Cloverdale High School, 2nd grade through 8th at the old Cloverdale High School building and graduated from NUHS in 1941. He was the first 4-year letterman in basketball.

Wendell worked summers at the Cloverdale Cheese Factory and in 1942 he helped slash the right of way for the blimp base in Tillamook, working for 62-1/2 cents per hour. He later worked for Crown Zellerbach, building roads on Whiskey Creek and another logging outfit up Fawcett Creek Rd.

He met his wife Verna Struckmeier in high school in 1940 and they married in September 1942 rearing 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl.

He worked for the county in 1942 and helped oil the first roads in Tillamook County. He also worked with his dad on their dairy.

In 1950, Wendell and Verna moved their family to Marion, OR where they rented a dairy farm, but moved back to Cloverdale in 1952 and bought a dairy in Hebo on Condor Road in 1954, which he continued to operate until 1971. He also worked during this time for Boylan & Bittner Plug Co. later known as Noble & Bittner Plug Co. Inc from 1966 until 1979 as the head sawyer.

After his divorce from Verna, he married Grace Atkinson Chaney in May of 1966 and gained 3 daughters and 1 son.

Wendell joined the Nestucca Presbyterian Church in 1940, making him the longest standing member to date. He served as a ruling elder for many years.

Wendell was an avid deer & elk hunter and had many successful trips with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wendell was preceded in death by his dad, mother & sister Irma Lane; grandson Roger Allen Lane; granddaughter Jaime Ann Lane; Grandson Matthew Farvour; his first wife Verna Lane Beaman; and his wife Grace, who he was married to for 52 ½ years

Wendell is survived by his children: Donald Lane and wife Donna of Medford, OR

Kenneth Lane and wife Deidra of LaPine, OR
Rodney Lane and wife Patsy of Tillamook, OR
Roger land and wife Lennette of Cloverdale, OR
And One daughter, Susan Beachy and husband Bill of Cloverdale, OR
Three step-daughters Virgina Hubler of Kelso, WA
Rebecca Farvour and husband AL of Kelso, WA
And Sue Owens and Husband Jeff of Tillamook, OR
One Stepson Richard Chaney and wife Debbie of Arkansas
One brother Kenneth (Corky) Lane of Salem, OR
27 grandchildren, numerous great as well as great-great grandchildren; several Sister-in-laws, Brother-in-laws, Nieces and Nephews.

Wendell and his boys spent many hours on the Big Nestucca river catching their share of steelhead and chinook, enjoying their love for the great outdoors.

Wendell has also asked that his first wife Verna be mentioned whom he was married to for 25 ½ years.

“I bid a farewell to all my family and friends. I am now going to visit with dad, Great and Great-Great Granddads.”

Funeral services will be held December 9, 2023 at the Nestucca Presbyterian Church at 1 PM.
