OP/ED: Comparing State Rep. Candidates – Head to Head – I’m Voting Laity

Posted on October 13, 2022 by Editor

By Jim Heffernan
It’s not often that I am personally acquainted with a candidate for public office. This election cycle, I have the privilege to be personally acquainted with Logan Laity. I’ve known him for at least 2 years through our shared central committee experience with TillCo Dems. I have seen how he functions in an organization and I am impressed with his skills in dealing with people and his work ethic.
In conversations, his intelligence is apparent. I like that he shares my feelings about the needs of coastal Oregon communities.
In particular, I admire Logan’s commitment to improving Tillamook and to safeguarding the rights of women.
His opponent, Cyrus Javadi, advertises “common sense solutions”, which I suspect is an empty promise that looks good on a billboard but means nothing. His disregard for the rights of women to make their own choices is a deal-breaker for me.
Logan has been criticized for his youth, but I feel youth is an important asset when our future is at stake.
What really sets Logan apart from his opponent, Cyrus Javardi, is their past performance in local government.

Cyrus was elected as Commissioner, of Port of Tillamook Bay, Position #3, in November of 2019. His role was declared vacant by February 2020. Looking through the online minutes of Port meetings, he was absent more than he was present and often showed up late and left early. If he ever contributed anything I can’t detect it by scanning the minutes.
Cyrus lasted less than a year before forcing a vacancy on this critical board. I believe Cyrus’s performance as state representative would be no better.
Logan has been a director on] the board of the Tillamook Urban Renewal Agency (TURA) since 2021 and rarely misses a meeting. (I always wondered a little about TURA and what it does, Turns out, that just about every improvement in Tillamook in the last 13 [years has been enabled or helped by TURA. That includes a $100,000 grant that was used for the construction of Cryus’ office.)
If elected, I’m sure Logan will serve in the legislature as faithfully as he has with TURA. and TillCoDems The citizens of the North Oregon coast deserve that sort of representation.
