The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) in consultation with the States of California, Oregon and Washington, the Pacific Fishery Management Council, and fishery representatives met today via conference call and have taken the following in-season management action related to the ocean recreational salmon season from Leadbetter Point, Washington to Cape Falcon, Oregon:
ACTION TAKEN:
- Effective 11:59 PM Monday August 24, 2026, the ocean recreational salmon fishery in the area between Cape Falcon and Leadbetter Point (Columbia River subarea) is closed. Possession of salmon onboard a vessel in the area is prohibited from August 25 onwards.
RATIONALE:
It is projected that at the end of day on Monday August 24, 2026 the fin-clipped coho quota in the area from Cape Falcon to Leadbetter Point will have been met, and the fishery must close at the end of the day. Ocean salmon fishing in the area is now closed for the remainder of the year.
