OREGON DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION (ODOT) PROJECT UPDATE: HWY. 6 DEVILS LAKE FORK WILSON RIVER BRIDGE, MULTIPLE WORK ZONES

Posted on July 31, 2026 by Editor

Work zones are defined for your safety – and ours

Caution gifPaying attention, watching for other drivers and driving carefully helps keep workers and those traveling through work zones safe.

That includes our crews, county or city staff, contractors and utility workers, emergency responders including law enforcement, firefighters and medics, as well as tow truck drivers assisting with disabled vehicles and stranded drivers. State law requires you to move over when you see them at work.

When you see people working on a road or shoulder, slow down and use caution. Lives depend on it. And it’s not just workers who are in danger – travelers are more often hurt or killed in work zones than workers.

Flagger holding slow paddleThis work zone is narrow – please use caution, follow the movements as directed by the flaggers and automated flagging assistant devices.

While you may not always see people working, it doesn’t mean it’s not an active work zone.

Barricades, cones and traffic barrels close off areas that are unsafe for pedestrians and vehicles. The area will remain closed until crews are able to return, repair and reopen. Please do not move barricades, traffic barrels, cones or park in coned-off areas.

Reminder – When you see an automated flagger assistant device, here’s what you need to do:

  • Stop when the light is red and the flag is down.
  • Wait for the arm to be fully up before you start moving.
  • Drive carefully when the light is flashing orange and the flag is up.

Do not drive around workers holding stop signs or automated flagger assistant devices directing you to stop – for your safety and the safety of the crews.

Remember: fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
