PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT From Tillamook Police Department Effective Immediately – Winter Weather Advisory

Posted on February 4, 2025 by Editor

Issued: February 4, 2025
The Tillamook Police Department is issuing a Public Safety Announcement due to potential for moderate snowfall and overnight sub-freezing temperatures expected for the next two days. These conditions will create hazardous roadways and potentially impact travel.
These winter storms can place an extraordinary burden on our 1st Responders.
When snow and sub-freezing temperatures are expected, residents should prepare for cold temperatures, particularly overnight. These conditions will create slick and dangerous roads, increasing the risk of crashes.
When snow and icy conditions are present, do not drive unless absolutely necessary. Prioritize your safety and stay home to avoid potential accidents on slippery roads. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but your safety is our utmost concern.

If You Must Drive, Be Prepared.
Check Weather Forecasts: Stay informed about changing conditions. Monitor local news and weather apps for updates.
Essential Travel Only: If you can postpone travel, please do so. Reduce the number of vehicles on the road to allow our 1st responders to operate more effectively.
Drive Slowly and Cautiously: If you must drive, reduce your speed significantly. Increase your following distance and avoid sudden braking or steering maneuvers. Remember, posted speed limits are for ideal conditions, not snowy or icy roads.
Vehicle Preparedness: Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready. Check your tire tread depth, ensure your windshield wipers are functioning correctly, and consider using snow tires for improved traction. Carry an emergency kit with blankets, food, water, and a flashlight.
Hazard Awareness: Be especially cautious on bridges, overpasses, and in shaded areas, as these locations tend to freeze more quickly and remain icy longer. Be aware of black ice, which can be nearly invisible.
We are in this together. By taking these precautions, we can all help to ensure the safety of our community during these winter weather events.
For emergencies, dial 911. For non-emergency information and updates, please monitor the usual sources and social media pages.
Stay Safe – Stay Home if Possible.
