Today, Monday July 27, 2026, Rockaway Beach Fire Rescue responded to a grass and brush fire near the beach. Crews arrived to find active fire burning through the dry beach grass and vegetation.
Firefighters quickly went to work containing the fire and knocking down the active flames before beginning mop-up to make sure any remaining hot spots were fully extinguished.
This is a good reminder that even here on the coast, our vegetation can dry out enough during the summer months to burn and spread quickly.
Please use extra caution with anything that could create a spark or flame around dry grass and vegetation.
Thanks to the Oregon State Fire Marshall staffing grant we are able to have the resources available to respond quickly to events like this.
Great work by everyone who responded today and helped get this fire quickly under control.
