Rockaway Beach Police Results – August 14th Pedestrian Safety Exercise

Posted on August 22, 2018 by Editor

On August 14th, from Noon to 4:00 PM the Rockaway Beach Police Department conducted our final pedestrian safety exercise for 2018. During the four hour span of the exercise, our volunteers crossed the highway at two different locations a total of 220 times. From those crossings, our officers made 19 traffic stops, resulting in 8 citations being issued for drivers not complying with Oregon crosswalk laws. This equates to only 3.6% of vehicles not stopping appropriately when required.

The Rockaway Beach Police Department would like to thank Oregon Impact, the Oregon Department of Transportation, our volunteers, the citizens and visitors of Rockaway Beach for making safe roadways a priority in Oregon.
A reminder that the Rockaway Beach PD is participating in both the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns through Labor Day weekend.
Don’t forget to download the Rockaway Beach PD app!
If you have questions about these projects, please feel free to contact Sergeant Sean Ahlers at the Rockaway Beach Police Department or by phone at (503)355-2252.
