Support for Library Levy

Posted on April 14, 2022April 14, 2022 by Editor

In the upcoming election cycle is the continuation of the library levy – Basically a special library tax. This carves out a known amount of money from Tillamook County property tax revenues ensuring that the library system has a known and reliable source of funds.

The word library can mean many things, they used to be mostly a repository of important and historical documents.
Originally owned by monarchs and churches, here in the US, universities and the library of Congress have important and historical documents. Local libraries tend to have local and important documents. For example documents about the early days of the timber industry can be found in local libraries.

Having a local library system means you also get accessto inter library loans. The Tillamook library may not have a book or DVD, but the library will find another library that has that item and get it delivered to your local branch for pickup. So having a local library system means you have access to every book, DVD or document, even books that are only in the Library of Congress.

Libraries are an incredible source of knowledge, as well as a source of entertainment, novels, movies, newspapers and magazines.

Tillamook has branches throughout the County where you can browse the shelves, sit in comfort and read. A place to do homework and research. They have photocopy machines where you can make copies of your own documents, or photocopy items in the library to take with you.

Every library has a staff librarian who knows how to track down and get you what you want access to.

There is currently a problem of people getting fast and reliable Internet access. Your local library already has a high speed fiber optic connection to the Internet that anyone can use, either on a library desktop, or bring your own tablet, laptop or even smart phone. The library WiFi is available round the clock.
If you sit outside the library, in your car or on a bench you have much better access than you can currently get at home. If you need to do a big download to your laptop, you can do that at your library.

Yes, we really need libraries and even if you are not a current user, people around you are.

If you can’t easily get to the library, the library will come to you. There is a brightly painted bus called the Bookmobile. If you are on a farm, or lack mobility, the Bookmobile will deliver and pickup. Yes, the library makes house calls.

If you want to read the details of the library levy, the details are here:
