THE OCEANSIDER: Odds and Ends – County Enacts New STR Rules, Caps & Lifting Pause to Come;

Posted on July 23, 2023 by Editor
By Jerry Keene, Editor, The Oceansider

Here are a few items of note for the coming week:

County Enacts New STR Rules and Moves on to “Caps”

As predicted last week, the County Commissioners unanimously voted to adopt a comprehensive overhaul of the STR regulations applicable to the county’s unincorporated communities and rural areas.  Here is a link:  Revised STR Rules – Final Draft  They also signaled their intent to approve “caps” on STR licenses in each community within the next week or so. The order approving caps will also set out procedures for lifting the “pause” and processing new licensing applications commencing in August.  Oceanside currently has 129 residences licensed for STRs. Under the proposed cap, there will be room for 10 more licenses before a waiting list commences.

Here is the data for all of the affected communities:

Portland Avenue Reopened
Portand Avenue reopened earlier this week after the contractor for the Gass family construction project completed county-approved modifications to the parking pad. Use caution, however, as work involving heavy equipment (and associated road blockages) will continue at the site. The County intends to monitor ongoing work closely.

Oceanside Gathering Potluck this Saturday
The forecast is for perfect weather this Saturday as Oceansiders prepare for the annual Village Gathering putluck at the Community Hall this Saturday from 4-6 p.m. Bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert to share as we come together for this decades-old community tradition. Those who can are urged to arrive early to help set up, or to stay late to help clean up. Thanks again to grillmaster Brian Bucknam for volunteering his barbecue and time to cook up the franks. Thanks also to Pelican Brewing Company, who traditionally donates cases of their wonderful ale, which will be served along side wine and bottled water.
