In the May 2026 primary election, voters approved dissolving the former Tillamook Fire District and creating the new Tillamook Bay Fire & Rescue District. For property owners within the former district’s boundaries, the permanent fire district tax rate increased by $0.80, from $0.69 to $1.49 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The new district retained the former district’s boundaries and expanded to include properties within the City of Bay City. Because Bay City properties are now included in the fire district, the City of Bay City did not impose its previous $1.80 per $1,000 local option tax for fire protection services this year.
As a result of the new district and its expanded boundaries, property taxes billed for the district increased from approximately $1.04 million last year to $2.62 million in 2026–27. Properties within the City of Bay City account for approximately $290,000, or 11%, of the district’s total taxes billed this year.
Another change affecting some property owners is related to House Bill 3940, a statewide change involving rural fire protection taxes. Property owners within a rural fire protection district who see both a State Fire Patrol Fee and a rural fire protection district charge on their tax statement may be affected. The law did not change rural fire district boundaries; rather, it changed how much land within those districts may be subject to the district’s fire protection tax. Additional information for affected property owners is available on the County website.
